Description
The Barnes Choir will celebrate the English choral tradition in a programme of both sacred and secular choral music from the twentieth century. The combination of modern idiom and old liturgical spirit found in the Vaughan Williams Mass will be paired with shorter sacred pieces by Parry and Elgar before a selection of part-songs will introduce Stanford’s rarely performed Songs of the Fleet. From a majesty reminiscent of grand film scores decades hence to a tremendous weight of pathos and emotional gravity, these maritime texts stirred Stanford to produce some of his most moving music.
