Part of the Barnes Music Festival.
Tony Palmer is one of the leading directors of music documentaries and historical drama films in the world, having won over 40 international prizes for his work. He returns to the Barnes Music Festival to introduce his film about Henry Purcell 'England, My England'.
The script by Charles Wood and John Osborne launches a group of actors in the 1960s on a voyage of discovery into the late 17th century, the extraordinary period in which Purcell lived. But it is Purcell’s music which is the driving force of the drama with a stunning soundtrack conducted by John Eliot Gardner.
