Performers: Christopher Foster – bass/baritone and Audrey Hyland – piano
Commemorating the centenary of the outset of World War I, ‘A Soldier’s Tale’ portrays the story of a man who is called up to become a soldier, who leaves home, his journey to war, waiting, drinking, missing home, the battle, the peace and then his return home. It is based on poems by AE Housman, Graves, Masefield, FW Harvey and others set to music by Somerwell, Butterworth, Ireland, Bridge and Poulenc.
Christopher Foster’s concert work has seen him perform throughout the UK and Europe with orchestras such as the RPO and the BBC Symphony Orchestra.
Audrey Hyland’s career as an accompanist has seen her win many awards and perform throughout the world as well as at most of Britain’s major concert venues.
