In this two-week intensive workshop students will have the opportunity to work on all aspects of figure drawing and painting. With over 60 hours of time with the life model (the equivalent to a 1-month pose in the atelier system), students will work on their observation skills by intensely studying the model.
We will begin with the basic ‘block-in’ drawing and progress to a refined linear representation of the model in preparation for transferring to canvas. Emphasis will be placed on an accurate drawing with good proportions and shapes prior to transfer.
Students will then begin working on the painting through several guided processes beginning with the ébauche and working on to the first layer through to the final pass. Concepts discussed will be related to line, form, value, hue and chroma. Different brush techniques and paint layer manipulation will also be explored.
Students wishing to continue working on their drawing to bring it to a finish in lieu of starting a painting can freely do so should they decide.
