Introduction to Academic Figure Drawing
Good drawing skills are fundamentally integrated with good painting ability. Regardless of the artist’s chosen medium or subject matter, if an attempt at realism is what one is trying to achieve stylistically – good drawing skills are an indisputable asset to have AND maintain.
While all of our courses emphasize effort on good drawing skills, this workshop pays particular attention to the foundations of good drawing – particularly figure drawing. Aspects that one can expect to learn and be proficient with by the end of the workshop are:
- professional handling of one’s tools (i.e proper pencil choice, handling & manipulation)
- using comparative measurements for acquiring accurate proportions of the figure
- solid understanding of different elements of the use of line, form and value
- confidence in seeing and drawing more accurate shapes
- emphasizing expressive gesture in the pose
- some experience with rendering a form to a finish
All tools and methods will be thoroughly discussed and shown throughout the course so that students will have the ability to replicate what they have learnt in the future.
