Part of the Barnes Music Festival.
Three giants of English music, Elgar, Delius and Holst all died in 1934. The Villiers String Quartet celebrate their lives and achievements by performing notable pieces they composed for string quartet. They also play the string quartet by Robert Still (1910 – 1971) who came from the following generation and inherited their legacy.
With performances of explosive energy and stylistic refinement, the Villiers String Quartet has established themselves as one of the most influential ensembles at the heart of the British chamber music scene. With a strong focus on English works by Delius, Elgar, Britten and Bridge, they also have a reputation as passionate champions of new music. They have recently release their debut CD for Naxos of the complete quartets of Robert Still.
