Barnes Tidy Towpath Group

The Barnes Tidy Towpath Group is a small but growing group of community-spirited locals who organise a weekly group litter picking session along the towpath and foreshore between Hammersmith and Barnes Bridges as well as supporting anyone who wants to pick up litter in their own time, as and when they can.

The group engages with passers-by to encourage participation in their clean-up efforts and the responsible disposal of waste. They work with the local Council, the BCA, Thames21 and local shops to garner support.

The members are passionate about our environment, the Thames towpath and waterways in general and focus on:

  • Expanding the group
  • Creating awareness of the impact of litter, especially single-use items such as plastic bottles and non-recyclable takeaway cups, and how to help reduce it
  • Educating people who actively use the towpath and Thames e.g., walkers, runners, cyclists, rowers, local schools and charity fundraising groups
  • Working with and encouraging similar groups along the towpath within Richmond Borough
