Barnes Bowling Club

Set within what seems to be a secret walled garden behind the Sun Inn pub, the Barnes Bowling Club is a piece of living history.

Members play marvellously competitive games of bowls on the beautifully manicured lawns - but unlike standard Crown Green bowls the BBC plays by rules established in the 18th century - refusing to follow the new-fangled rule changes instituted by W M Mitchell in 1840.

The club is open to new joiners but does have a rule requiring that members must be nominated by an existing member of 12 months' standing.
