Zac Goldsmith will launch the Trail in the garden of the Coach & Horses at 10.00am. Local business Nookie Bar will be sampling their delicious organic chocolate bars and children attending will be given a special trail map with clues so that they can take part in a treasure hunt style quiz over the weekend. Quiz winners will get Book Tokens from The Barnes Bookshop as prizes. Shops and businesses along the trail route are planning attractions to entice visitors in, including The Sun Inn which is having a family barbecue with entertainment for children.

The Trail - which aims to get Barnes locals to explore Barnes, and encourage visitors to enjoy our beautiful village and support local businesses - has attracted the support of celebrities including Dan Snow, who will be doing media interviews to promote the trail over the coming months.

Gyles Brandreth has also expressed his support for the Trail by saying "The joy of Barnes is that it's as modern as tomorrow but has a lot of time for yesterday. Come rain or shine, it's a wonderful place for a memorable walk. You can follow in the footsteps of Samuel Pepys. He took walks on Barn Elms – to watch the girls walking by. You can discover the house where the author of Tom Jones once lived. Yes, Henry Fielding lived in Barnes, in the big house that faces the pond. You can visit St Mary's, a church that dates back to the time of the Magna Carta. From the amazing Wildfowl and Wetlands Centre at one end of Barnes to the great Gustav Holst's riverside home at the other, Barnes has everything that a civilised soul could want. And running through it is the country's most interesting High Street, where you can buy everything and anything, from beautiful books (with pages in them!) to incredible cheeses, from dry Martinis to wet fish, from paintings to pottery, from toys to jewelry. I don't know why we're spreading the word. In many ways I'd rather like Barnes to remain London's best-kept secret."
