Barnes Philosophy Club meeting

The new Barnes Philosophy Club has just held a successful second meeting.

Club founder Barbara Underwood reports "We had our second Philosophy Club meeting in the Walnut Tree Room of the Coach & Horses last Wednesday and again it was a lively affair! Around 18 people came and, apart from us being a little cold, the conversation was very warm. There was no pressure to contribute as some came to listen in, and some to find out and engage with the text. However, in discussing Kant from the 18th Century and Foucault from the 20th on the question of "What is Enlightenment" there was general surprise to find how clear and understandable the Kant article was, bearing in mind he is noted as a very difficult philosopher to understand; and how unnecessarily verbose Foucault seemed by comparison.

Next time we begin Kant in earnest with an introduction to his Critique of Pure Reason: a little more tricky!!

Our next meeting will be on Wednesday 24th November, 7.30-9pm - Walnut Tree Room of the Coach & Horses, Barnes High Street - do contact me if you would like to know more!

We are going to be very lucky to have a speaker next January Professor Richard Ashcroft, professor of bioethics who will talk on medical ethics."

The details of the club are here and the next meeting is already in our events calendar: why not go along?
