The Real Cheese Shop may be small but it offers a huge range of cheeses from England, the Nordic countries, and France: a very classic selection of the latter including Gourmelin, Vignotte, Munster, Reblochon, Brie de Meaux, Roquefort, Raclette, Epoisses, Crottins, Coulommier, Pyrénée, Chaume, Morbier, Chèvre, Selle sur Cher, Comté and Tomme de Savoie.
Barnes's local Scandinavian residents pop in to pick up obscure cheeses such as the caramel flavoured Gjetost, and lovers of artisanal British cheeses are well catered for with hard-to-find cheeses like Lyburn from the New Forest regularly in stock.
The owners' love for and knowledge of cheese shines through and they are happy to allow you to taste before you buy. As well as cheeses they sell a great range of biscuits and chutneys and also beautiful Marcona almonds and fat, flavourful olives. On Saturday they stock bread from the up and coming bakers Born & Bread (who also sell through Harrod's Food Hall) and in summer look out for the home grown tomato plants in the window which give the shop a wonderful cheese and tomatoey aroma!
